Q1. Why do progressive (multifocal) lenses make me feel dizzy?

Dizziness with progressive lenses is usually not because progressives "don't suit you" — it's because the fitting data was off. The near zone and corridor length need to be set to your viewing habits and facial structure, and the frame's pantoscopic tilt and vertex distance must be precisely measured. At Beyond Visual Optometry in Xinzhuang and Banqiao, we get these numbers right through a complete clinical vision exam, and for most people the dizziness resolves.

Q2. My glasses make me dizzy — did I get the wrong prescription?

Not necessarily. Dizziness commonly comes from three causes: a prescription or axis that isn't aligned; binocular coordination (phoria, convergence) that was never assessed; or a pupillary distance or frame position that has shifted. A quick fitting usually only measures the prescription and overlooks the other two. We recommend a full binocular vision assessment to find the real cause before adjusting.

Q3. Do I have to get progressive lenses for presbyopia?

Not necessarily. Progressives suit people who want one pair for both distance and near; if you mainly use a computer or phone, a dedicated indoor intermediate-near lens may be more comfortable; and for those who prefer to take their glasses off to read, single-vision reading glasses are also an option. Which one fits depends on your everyday visual needs — our optometry team assesses this in person and recommends the most suitable design.

Q4. How long does a complete vision exam take? How is it different from a regular optical shop?

A quick fitting takes about 10 minutes. A complete clinical vision exam at Beyond Visual takes about 45–60 minutes, including subjective refraction, binocular coordination, accommodation and convergence testing, plus pantoscopic tilt and vertex distance measurement. This data directly determines how clear and comfortable your glasses feel — the real meaning of "not the most expensive, only the most suitable."

Q5. Are premium lenses like ZEISS really worth the extra money?

The point isn't "expensive" — it's "suited to how you use your eyes." For office workers who stare at a screen for more than 10 hours a day, a suitable near-support design and precise fitting parameters determine visual comfort over long hours; for drivers, anti-glare and clear distance vision matter more. We explain the differences based on your actual needs, rather than always pushing the highest price.

Q6. I spend long hours on screens — what lenses should I get?

For those with digital eye strain, we suggest considering digital lenses with an accommodation-support zone, so the eyes don't have to focus at full effort when viewing a screen, easing the workload on the ciliary muscle. Note that blue-light filtering is only filtering and cannot replace an accommodation-support design — the two serve different purposes. Which one actually suits you is best decided after our optometry team assesses your working distance and screen time.

Q7. My child's myopia is progressing fast — how can an optometrist help?

We provide regular tracking of children's vision: recording prescription changes and assessing viewing habits, helping parents monitor their child's vision trend over the long term. We do not currently fit contact lenses (including defocus-design soft lenses) for children aged fifteen and under; please have an ophthalmologist assess your child first. If medication or other medical treatment is involved, it must be prescribed by an ophthalmologist — such care is co-managed with your ophthalmologist, and we'll help you work out who to see.

Q8. Can I just buy contact lenses directly? Do I need a vision exam?

Contact lenses are medical devices, and the prescription can't simply be copied from your glasses. Before wearing them you need an eye exam, and for most lenses a trial fitting, to confirm the power and how the lens sits on your eye; eye health checks are done by an ophthalmologist. Soft lenses come as daily, two-week and monthly disposables, and the replacement period counts from the day you open the pack, so if you only wear lenses once or twice a week, dailies usually suit you better; with higher astigmatism, rigid RGP lenses can be evaluated. Under Article 12 of Taiwan's Optometrists Act, contact lens refraction for those aged fifteen and under must be carried out under an ophthalmologist's guidance; we do not currently fit contact lenses for that age group, so please have an ophthalmologist assess your child first.

Q9. If my glasses feel uncomfortable after I get them, can I come back for adjustment?

Yes — this is exactly our after-care promise. For glasses fitted at Beyond Visual, frame adjustments after pickup are included at no extra charge; parts such as nose pads and screws are discussed case by case. If you still can't adapt after wearing them for a while, you're welcome to come back and have our optometry team recheck the prescription and fit. We care not just about selling you glasses, but about you seeing clearly and comfortably over the long run.

Q10. What's the difference between the Xinzhuang and Banqiao stores? Can I book at the one nearest me?

Both stores offer complete clinical vision exams and functional eyewear fitting by licensed optometry staff. The Xinzhuang store (Zhongzheng Rd., Xinzhuang District; Beyond Visual Optometry × BiYang Optometry Clinic) is led by Optometrist YoYo; the Banqiao store is on Shuangshi Rd., Banqiao District (Beyond Visual Optometry × Neng Jian Du Optometry Clinic).
